fast, inexpensive and healthy - and delicious!
Grapefruit is on sale this week at Aldi and Bottom Dollar.
Aldi 5lb bag is $1.69
Bottom Dollar 5lb bag is $1.89
There were 8 grapefruits in the bag that I bought. Therefore, this recipe is about $0.22 per grapefruit!!
I read multiple variations on this that involved regular sugar and brown sugar. Since they all sounded interesting, I tried one half of each:
plain sugar/brown sugar mix
no sugar (I realize that the sugar is necessary to get the carmelization on the top of the grapefruit, but I wanted to see what it would taste like without it. I guess you could call that one the "control group" for this experiment)
Grapefruit, cut in half
1 teaspoon sugar (table sugar or brown)
Move oven rack to top shelf and preheat oven to 500F.
After cutting the grapefruit in half, sprinkle the sugar of your choice on the cut side of the fruit.
Place on an oven safe dish and broil for 4-5 minutes at 500F.
